Cultural performances by the Indonesian Cultural Club, bellydance by Lorelei, Cris Valkyria, Keila Cordova and many other local talents.

Lorelei has been studying bellydance for over four years. She also draws on many years of other music and dance training including: ballet, jazz, tap, private flute instruction, concert band, chorus, Collegium Musicum, Gamelan, and high school and community musical theater. Lorelei style is best described as 2 parts American Cabaret, 2 parts Gothic, 1 part Turkish, and 1 part Tribal, shaken VIGOROUSLY, not stirred. She has taken workshops and classes in those various style with teachers including: Ilianna, Shems, Shahrzad, Alexia, Tempest, and Zafira.

Born in Norway, Cris Valkyria has crammed a lot of life in her few short years. Aside from traveling to the far corners of the world to gather inspiration for her life and music, she also has tried her hand at, and mastered, the martial arts, horse racing, psychology, painting, clothes design, performing arts, counseling, research, and writing. The musical manifestation of this chameleon is sure to please. Her lyrics touch both the heart and the cortex, while her voice is an intoxicating blend of Nordic and Oxford English, that is almost elven in its other worldliness. The sultry melodies are most ethereal, emotional, yet soothingly captivating. Don't miss this modern day Renaissance woman.

Learn Bahasa Indonesia

Did you know that Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world, and its national language (Bahasa Indonesia) is among the world's 10 most widely spoken? Did you also know it is considered the world's EASIEST major language by many linguistics experts?   So, why not learn it and meet others with a similar interest?

Our conversational meet-up is designed for participants to get to know each other better while practicing simple Bahasa Indonesia dialogues.  Meet-up sessions will focus on daily conversational words, and phrases that are commonly used.   English will be used as infrequently as possible, since the best way to learn a language is through dialogue involving total immersion. ALL levels of speakers and learners are welcome, and a volunteer native speaker will be present to help with the learning process!

Dance Class

We practice and promote traditional folk dances from all over Indonesia,  including: Bali, Java, Sulawesi, Sumatra and many other provinces.  Our four volunteer instructors have many years of experience in performing various dance styles. Our dance repertoires include Cendrawasih, Sekar Jagat, Puspanjali, Saman, Yapong, Pepoinaya, Gelang Soko and many more.

We have ongoing dance class and rehearsals throughout the year. All club participants will be asked to perform in upcoming local community events such as Festivals, Newark Nite, Community Day, various parades and other ICC sponsored events. This participation, however, is not mandatory. We only ask the participants who we feel are ready to perform.

For classes we do ask that each participant wears comfortable clothing.  Sarongs are optional; if you don’t own a sarong, we have many that you can borrow for practice.

Class and rehearsals are typically held every other Sunday from 3-5 PM. Please see our event calendar for our rehearsal schedule.  Remember that your 1st class is FREE, so come and join us!
